Free Thing Thursdays – Free Iphone Apps

Posted on August 20, 2009

If you have an iPhone or an iPod Touch, then this is a good free thing to know.

(Hot tip: If you do NOT have an iPod Touch, try to hold off until after Labor Day. The rumor mill says that Apple is going to roll out a new iPod Touch that would make it a must-buy. Let’s just say, I am already making room in my budget to purchase one in early September if rumors are true.)

But enough with the rumors, you are here for today’s free thing. If you have an iPhone or an iPod touch, you are familiar with the applications that make the device so useful. Most of the Apps do cost money. But there are times when the developer makes their app available for free.
However, the vast number of apps make it hard to find out when that happens. There are two services that do this for you. Thanks to C-NET ( for both tips.
The first is an iPhone App called FreeAppAlert. FreeAppAlert locates the Apps that have become free. According to CNET, the app is an extension of the website that catalogs all iPhone apps that previously cost money but are now free.
The second service called 148Apps, that sends notifications directly to your Twitter account that can tell you when an app becomes free.
If you are reading this and you do not understand the theory behind Twitter, this short video explains Just What The Heck Is Twitter, Anyway.
